The Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado is known for its record of being the highest suspension bridge in the United States. It was built in 1929, but it wasn’t until 50 years later that stabilizing wind cables were added to the bridge! You can only imagine the terror of crossing 955 feet above the Arkansas River back then! The bridge has since then been a tourist attraction, as it is located within the 360 acre Royal Gorge Bridge & Park. For those brave souls out there, you can even ride a cable car to which you will be treated with stunning scenic views at a great height.
